About PHPIO

PHPIO is an organization of home inspectors that believes in a fair and equal voice for the home inspection profession in Ontario. Several very experienced and well respected inspectors have identified a need for a clear path to the National Certification for Ontario inspectors. Most have been leaders in the industry for many years. This was prompted by an increased demand for home inspections and the lack of qualified practitioners which has lead to a number of consumer concerns - primarily inconsistencies in the quality and level of service provided.

The Canadian public, through CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), demanded an accountable level of competence and training. The most important initiative in the history of the Canadian Home Inspection industry is the National Certification Program. The NCP was created from a well-documented desire and need for a defensible, credible national credential. Many national stakeholders, including CREA (Canadian Real Estate Association), CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), HRSDC (Human Resources and Social Development Canada), NRC (National Research Council), banks , insurers, relocation companies, etc. decried the lack of a recognized group of well trained, tested and approved home & property inspectors who would practice to the same level of competence across Canada.

The National Certificate Holder designation is the new gold standard for home inspectors across Canada. With it, we can ensure our clientele that they will receive professional home inspection services that are uniformly consistent from coast to coast to coast. We are very proud of the fact that our inspectors have undergone some of the most comprehensive technical and rigorous field testing requirements found in the industry today. The National Certification Authority is dedicated to its commitment of excellence by requiring that all National Certificate Holders be regularly re-tested to ensure that their level of competency does not falter in the future. PHPIO Full Members should wear this designation proudly as they have set a new standard and are true national ambassadors for their profession.
