The Professional Home and Property Inspectors of Ontario Full membership in PHPIO is an earned credential and the best evidence of an inspector's competence and professionalism. All full members are current ‘National Certificate Holders’ with CAHPI (Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors) National Certification Authority. PHPIO is at the leading edge of the home inspection profession in Ontario and the 'PHPI' designation ("Professional Home & Property Inspector") is the new gold standard of competency for private home inspector.

Our Commitment to our Members

We support the CAHPI standards of practice and commit to ensure our members follow those standards in order to establish a common representation for a home inspection in Ontario.

We support the CAHPI Code of Ethics in a commitment to balance the ethical standards of PHPIO Inspectors and our desire to protect the consumer. PHPIO will guide their members in the most disciplined professional standards.

We recognize the consumer's right to a responsible, objective and fair home inspection and a clear avenue to address concerns they may have. We support the CAHPI Discipline Practices and fully recognize this mandate.

We fully support the National Certification Authority (NCA) and strive to assist every PHPIO member who begins the process to attain their NCA designation.

We recognize other professional home and property inspection organizations that have members within Ontario. We welcome their members who have valid, verifiable credentials that are recognized as they seek to attain their National Certification.

We support the NCA in their mandate to process every applicant fairly and without prejudice.

We fully recognize the test inspection and peer review (TIPR) standards and accept any NCA recognized examiner who is authorized to conduct these competency tests.

We agree to retain the records of each PHPIO member in confidence and only make these files available for the NCA discipline standards or review of credentials by the National Registrar. We will recognize the national discipline committee as final governance on all discipline matters.

PHPIO operates with an executive committee of members who will hold annual meetings as soon as possible after December 31 each year but no later than March 31 of the following year.

PHPIO will produce an annual budget and audited financial statements and will provide members with quarterly financial statements within 30 days of each quarter.

PHPIO supports CAHPI or NCA recognized training facilitators and assists any professional organization or educational association to attain recognition of their training for the benefit of all PHPIO members. PHPIO will not certify or regulate any education standards for its members.

PHPIO will assist any regional meeting group in establishing quarterly meetings for which CAHPI/NCP training credits can be obtained.

PHPIO operates a professional office open to all members during normal business hours. Members will be permitted to contact the office and receive an answer to their inquiries in a timely fashion.

PHPIO operates www.phpio.ca as an open and free organization web site with a clear, defined mandate for member discussions and a professional presentation for the consumer to confirm the membership of all PHPIO members.
